BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Steven Wright's been a revelation for the Red Sox since returning from the disabled list. Ten innings, six hits, six walks, six strikeouts, zero earned runs. The team's 7-0 when he's pitched.

Wright kept the Yankees in check with three scoreless frames last night as the Sox mounted a comeback to win their third straight East crown.

"It feels good to finally get out there and just compete," Wright said. "That's kind of the one thing I try to do every time I go out, regardless of the situation of the game, I just want to go out there and pound the strike zone."

It's impossible to know how reliable the knuckleball will be in the postseason--or how the vet's bothersome knee will hold up--but it's fascinating to consider the bridge role Wright could play in a bullpen that's been wildly unreliable since the All-Star break.

For now, during a season Wright's been limited to 17 games and 50 innings, not to mention a suspension to begin the year for violating MLB's domestic violence policy, he's just thankful for something positive.

"I mean, it's been a lot of ups and downs," Wright said. "It's nice to finally be able to celebrate something, because I've had a lot of downs this past 6-7 months."

The Sox will start their playoffs two weeks from tonight.
