BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- This time last year, the Patriots were preparing for the playoffs, but also getting ready to lose Bill Belichick's top assistants.

Defensive coordinator Matt Patricia left to be the head coach of the Lions after the Super Bowl loss, and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels accepted the top job with the Colts...before changing his mind and returning to Foxborough.

A year later, rinse and repeat.

De facto DC Brian Flores has interviewed for four head coaching jobs and is reportedly the favorite to fill the Dolphins' vacancy. And, once again, McDaniels was attached to multiple opportunities. But, after missing out on the Packers' gig, he said the book's closed.

"It's always a humbling experience to have an opportunity to interview with anybody for that position," McDaniels said. "I was thankful for the opportunity to meet with Green Bay. It always gives you greater insight into another organization and how they do things, but, completely focused on the Chargers and our season and finishing it strong, and I'll be here moving forward."

McDaniels added he hasn't had any contact with the Browns about their opening, and he has no idea if reneging on the Colts last year impacted his search.
