BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — It's been a long time since local teams could claim a lack of championships. The last one was only three months ago, when the Boston Red Sox won the World Series—and now, the New England Patriots have won their sixth Super Bowl.

The Red Sox had some fun with the stat on their Twitter account, posting the following message with the caption “Ending that 3-month Boston championship drought. Congrats @Patriots!”

The Celtics and Bruins also took time to recognize the Patriots’ achievement:

Boston joins New York (1986), Pittsburgh (1979) and Baltimore (1970) on the short list of cities to win professional baseball and football championships within the same year.

The Red Sox and Patriots last won championships in the same season in 2004.
