Dan Beyer and Monse Balanos discuss why Brock Purdy will have to take his game to another level with a retooled 49ers roster to earn his money. He's done well with high-end weapons in the past, but it remains to be seen if he can do more with less.
Dan Beyer:
"He is going to have to play three levels above what he has to to reach that money. And realistically, because of how this team has taken shape, Deebo Samuel is no longer there, Christian McCaffrey again is getting older. There was a purge this offseason. You're making $53 Million. Now it's on you. So in other times when Brock Purdy was under that microscope and he was for the last year or two of does he elevate this team? How do you do when Brandon Aiyuk is out, how do you do when Christian McCaffrey is hurt. Where does that quarterback take us. Now he has to do it. back then maybe, its a well this wasn't our plan...now this is your plan. You are all in on Brock Purdy needs to raise his game to levels two ore three."
Monse Balanos:
"Yes he is going to have to deliver or else there's going to be a lot of criticism, but I always got the vibe the 49ers liked him and they didn't want to go away from him. You know what I'm saying? And I'm sure that they talked to others and got the idea that someone is going to swoop him up so fast. And so they probably thought, lets just do it now, which I think was the right decision. Get it done. If you liked him so much, get it done so you can focus on other things. But yes, now I know he is no longer Mr Irrelevant, but now like you said, he is going to have to deliver with weapons that maybe weren't as good as weapons at one point."
