THE BROCKALYPSE IS HERE: Why Brock Purdy DESERVED his Payday

Jason Smith and Mike Harmon discuss Brock Purdy's mega-extension and why he's a commodity the 49ers weren't willing to lose. Purdy is still making less annually (overall) than Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa and Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence.

Jason Smith:

"The Brockalypse is here. Has Purdy been a top quarterback in the league? No. He's he been a good quarterback yes. He had a really good second year got to the Super Bowl, not a good third year when the weapons got hurt and he didn't have as many, the 49ers weren't good. We are asking the wrong questions. It doesn't matter if you think he deserves the money or he doesn't. Teams know it is miserable without a quarterback. Jets have been trying to find a quarterback for 30 years. When you find a guy who all he's got to do is be a periphery top 15 quarterback. Purdy at his best is a periphery top 10 probably more of a 12-15 quarterback right now and he's someone that is good enough you can win with him. He doesn't need to be replaced and when teams have a quarterback like that we're going to keep him and we're going to give him what we need to and it's miserable without him. This is why Trevor Lawrence got paid, Tua, Geno Smith...etc.

Mike Harmon:

"In the case of the Jaguars it's a have we failed this guy and we don't want him to go be successful somewhere else yeah, right? He was supposed to be the chosen one. If you are Shad Khan you're sitting there and you're making an evaluation like can we give him one more shot and put some talent around him maybe it works. For the 49ers, they're one of the few teams where you say organizational stability is something that they come to the table with the luxury of we've watched Brock succeed, what are the things that have made him successful in the past and just owing it to star power is fine. Aiyuk has been good to grade at times, Deebo was good when utilized properly before he started carrying the ball eight times a game and getting broken in half and got cute, and banking on McCaffrey's legs for another year is key. All of that to say that with the right structure and right players that Brock Purdy is the guy why go searching in the wasteland that is free agency or the you know role of the rice of the draft you did that with Trey Lance and that didn't work".
